What is the LASIK procedure?

950€ / 2 eyes

With the LASIK procedure the corneal flap is created and folded back. Underneath it the actual laser polishing is carried out. The microkeratome MORIA M2 is used to cut the corneal flap.

After laser work, the flap is repositioned where it nestles in during approximately 2 minutes with the help of osmotic pressure. The flap protects the eye after laser work is done, therefore the recovery from surgery is nearly painless. The surgery lasts about 5 minutes on one eye. Recovery from surgery is fast. During approximately 3 hours vision is blurry but it will clear up during 1–2 days.

The LASIK method is a surgical procedure that has the same risks for complications as any eye surgery.

Risks that accompany the LASIK procedure:

Studies explain the risks in more detail but the most important complications are:

  • Vision in darkness might be temporarily weakened during 3–12 months. The probability of it becoming a more long-term problem may accur to 1–2% of patients.
  • Eyes are more dry and moisturizing eye drops are recommended to take into use during approximately 6 months after the surgery.
  • The formation of the corneal flap may stay incomplete (risk nowadays nearly 1/1000). In that case the flap will be repositioned and the laser work will have to be performed on that eye again in 3–4 months.
  • During the first weeks, some corneal epithelial layer might be formed under the flap. In most cases it will disappear by itself, but if needed, the flap will be surgically cleaned (risk 2–3/1000). This is generally noticed during the 4th week follow up.
  • The refraction dysfunction over- or undercorrection can be done with a repeated laser work in 2-3 months if necessary.
