LASEK operation is a more advanced vision correction procedure compared to PRK method, enabling faster recovery.
The surgeon loosens the surface layer of corneal epithelium and “rolls” the flap aside. The cornea is exposed for the application of the excimer laser to remove a microscopic layer of the cornea. The flap is then rolled back in place and a therapeutic contact lens is placed on the eye. It will be removed by the doctor in about 3-4 days. The procedure takes 5 minutes. Recovery will be faster and causes less discomfort compared to PRK operation.
The patient may experience slight pain, tearing and a sensation of foreign body in the eye for about a week. Vision stabilises within one week to one month.
